About this Event
Join us in Abbotsford for a guided tour behind the scenes of this thriving urban agriculture precinct.
Meet at the Collingwood Children's Farm (CCF) stall on St Helier's St, and come for a tour around the new CCF market garden. Hear stories from horticulturalist Rachel Freeman about how the site was transformed from a paddock into a food feast! Learn growing tips to take home to your own patch of sun as you absorb growing principles for productivity, garden design and discuss some concepts of regenerative agriculture. The tour will also explore ideas such as: seedlings versus direct seeded crops, weed management, irrigation set-ups, crop timing and rotations for Melbourne based city gardens as well as showcasing best practice tools used in market gardening. There will be lots of opportunities to have your questions answered!
Next, head over to Abbotsford Farmers Market where Founder Miranda Sharp will take you through the market's fascinating history. The oldest farmers market in Melbourne, you will meet some producers who have been attending for years as well as some new faces who pursued careers in agriculture more recently. You will have the opportunity to sample some of Victoria's best produce and understand the power of shopping directly from Victorian producers. Attendees will receive a Melbourne Farmers Market tote bag, a coffee, food samples as well as some other surprise goodies!
Entry to the Collingwood Children's Farm and Abbotsford Farmers Market are included in tour price. Stay and explore after the tour concludes.
Please arrive 10 minutes before tour time to ensure we start on time.
