Event description

Workshop for NFP Board Members - Things to Consider Before Starting a Social Enterprise

Is It possible to explore alternative approaches to funding the outcomes of your organisation that go beyond conventional fundraising models?  Many organisations find the concept of social enterprise attractive, as it involves utilising market-oriented methods to tackle social issues.  Nevertheless, effectively integrating social enterprise initiatives into the core activities of a non-profit organisation, rather than merely serving as a well-meaning distraction, is a challenging task.  It is easier said than done to ensure that these efforts are strategic and complementary to the organisation’s primary mission.

This workshop outlines some of the key considerations for not-for-profit boards, before undertaking social enterprise development.

  • What is social enterprise?
  • What type of governance structures can be explored when setting up a social enterprise?
  • How to ensure your venture remains mission aligned?
  • Governance and oversight of a social enterprise venture?
  • Risk and reward?
  • Innovation and iteration?
  • Building partnerships?

This workshop is proudly presented by the WA Social Enterprise Council (WASEC) in partnership with Impact Seed.

Public ticket price $99.  FREE FOR WASEC MEMBERS.
