UPSKILL + UPCYCLE | Semester 1

 Semester One learnings are for those with little-no experience on a sewing machine. They will cover the basics of using sewing machines so you can repair your own garments at home.

UPSKILL + UPCYCLE | Semester 1

This eight week semester covers the basics of sewing machine techniques and woven textile repairs. Once you’re comfortable, they will dive deeper into these techniques so you can add your own unique style to your repairs. Over the eight weeks you will be designing and crafting several Into Carry pieces (A5 Pouch, Glasses and Min Sidebag).

WHO IT'S FOR: Semester One learnings are for those with little-no experience on a sewing machine. They will cover the basics of using sewing machines so you can repair your own garments at home. If you have sewn in the past but want to brush up on your skills, this is a great place to start. If you're comfortable sewing and want to go to the next level, check out our Semester Two classes. 

LEARNINGS: Over the eight weeks you learn the following skills:

  • How to use a domestic sewing machine
  • Sewing on woven fabrics
  • Machine Repair technique (mending holes using a sewing machine)
  • Sewing Buttons/Button Holes
  • Decorative Stitches (styling repairs)
  • Applique & Reverse Applique (patchwork techniques)

THE COURSE: Consists of one two hour class each week for eight weeks. Each class covers a different skillset so you can tackle your own projects at home.

  • The semester runs every Tuesday evening from 16th May - 4th July
  • Class runs 6pm-8pm 
  • 8 Weeks of 2 hour classes
  • 8-10 Student Class with 2 'teachers'
  • No prior skills required
  • Each student will have their own sewing machine to practice on
  • You will be guided through threading and troubleshooting a sewing machine
  • Basic sewing and patch techniques covered (so you can do rad designs at home)
  • Each student will get to take home their own custom Glasses Case, A5 Pouch and Min Sidebag. 

THE NUMBERS: Included in the $580 ticket is eight weeks of classes, valued at $80 per class and the three Into Carry bags valued at $200 RRP, totalling the retail value of $840. 

All leftover textiles and offcuts are externally recycled with UPPAREL.
