Governing with stakeholder insight: A guide for boards

The AICD’s updated guide provides practical guidance for boards to engage with stakeholders, bring their insights into the boardroom and strengthen decision-making and long-term organisational value.

Governing with stakeholder insight: A guide for boards

The AICD has released an updated resource, Governing with Stakeholder Insight: A Guide for Boards, which refreshes and modernises the guidance from its 2021 Elevating Stakeholder Voices to the Board guide.

Effective engagement with stakeholders and understanding their perspectives is increasingly central to a board’s role and, when done well, can strengthen organisational reputation and create long-term value.

The guide provides a practical five-step framework to help boards:

  • identify and prioritise stakeholders
  • define the board’s role in stakeholder governance
  • strengthen engagement and bring stakeholder insights into the boardroom
  • incorporate stakeholder perspectives into decision-making
  • evaluate and refine stakeholder governance approaches over time

Featuring case studies and perspectives from directors, chairs and stakeholder representatives, the guide explores practical approaches to engaging with customers, employees, suppliers, First Nations peoples and broader communities.
