A new Insights Report examines the diversity of Work Integration Social Enterprises (WISEs) across Australia and the important role they play in creating meaningful employment opportunities for people from specific groups. While there are an estimated 12,000 social enterprises operating nationally and contributing around $21.3 billion to the Australian economy, the size and diversity of the WISE sector is less well understood.
Drawing on insights from the 2025 Social Enterprise Jobs Summit, the report provides a taxonomy of WISE models, highlighting the different characteristics, approaches and employment pathways used by these organisations. The findings aim to support policymakers and funders to better understand and strengthen the role of WISEs in Australia’s evolving employment and inclusion landscape.
