Business Development Manager
Job description
ABOUT US
White Box Enterprises (WBE) is a social enterprise intermediary on a mission to transform Australia’s employment system. Our goal is to create 5,000 jobs by 2030 for Australians facing barriers to employment. We build our own, and support others to create and replicate large-scale, sustainable social enterprises that provide meaningful, award-wage (or more) jobs, as well as training and support, to people who are excluded from the mainstream employment market.
Our work is supported by various Governments and philanthropists and increasingly we play a critical role in advocating to government in order to create an environment that supports the establishment and growth of these incredible organisations.
Beacon Laundry is our new large-scale social enterprise commercial laundry (not your normal community laundry), launching in the Byron Bay Bangalow area later this year. Beacon Laundry will work with the local communities across the region to provide job opportunities and employment pathways for people with barriers to employment including those living with a disability, lived experience of mental illness and an experience of homelessness.
THE ROLE
We want all the dirty laundry! Without it, we can’t create jobs for those who want an opportunity to work.
This role will lead the end-to-end development and implementation of a customer base that will establish and sustain Beacon’s operations. This includes strategy, winning new client accounts, maintaining long-term and sustaining relationships, and achieving revenue targets.
You’ll love being out and about, making connections, building Beacon, and talking with passion about how we others can join us to make a difference in the community. You’ll be creative, human-centred and outcomes-focused.
While this is a strategic role, we’re in start-up mode – so you’ll need to be adaptable in operationalising your strategy. You’ll have humility and be able to build relationships with our customers, the local community, and the people you’ll work alongside.
We’ll be honest – if a high commission sales role is what you’re after, then this role probably isn’t for you. You’ll have an opportunity to make a real impact in the local community, align to our social purpose, and be valued for the experience you’ll bring to contributing to our success. This role will suit someone living regionally without the need to commute to a capital city, sustaining a good base wage and some incentive-based payment. You’ll also have our trust to do what you need to organise and optimise your work and a collaborative, respectful work environment.
While we’d love for you to have had experience or exposure within social enterprise or the not-for-profit sector, it’s not essential. It’s more important that you’re a good human and align with our values of moonshot, create together, everything is figure-out-able, and best experience.
Beacon Laundry is on Bundjalung country. You’ll need to be able to travel as you need around northern NSW and south-east Queensland to make connections, and be part of teams based in Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne and Sydney.
We will be evaluating applications as they come in, so don't delay in expressing your interest to join our amazing team.
With diversity comes great success. We encourage and celebrate applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people living with disability, women, and people re-entering the workforce.
