Multicultural Australia is a leading Queensland multicultural organisation, providing settlement services for migrants, refugees and people seeking asylum. We aim to grow multicultural values across our State and to empower newly arrived Queenslanders from diverse cultural and language backgrounds through advocacy, community development and a range of client services.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Multicultural Australia is currently offering an opportunity for a Chief Operations Officer to work as part of our Business Support Partners team. The role is full-time, ongoing and based in Brisbane.

The Operations and Performance team is responsible for leading Multicultural Australia’s operations and outcomes in the areas of Human Resources; Information Technology; Contracts Management and Performance and Finance (including procurement and facilities). Furthermore, the role will handle matters of strategy implementation, governance, leadership, stakeholder engagement and operational oversight.

The Chief Operations Officer ensures the corporate backbone of the business is high performing, innovative and fit for purpose. Among other duties, the successful candidate will:

  • Contribute to the development of Multicultural Australia’s strategic plan along with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and plan ahead for short, mid and long-term horizons (<10yrs)
  • Ensure reporting is timely, accurate and relevant for the CEO, the ELT and Multicultural Australia’s Board and Committees
  • Provide clarity to staff through articulating the organisational strategy to all levels within the Function (as well as into the wider organisation) and providing a clear line of sight for all staff, enabling them to link their work to organisational objectives
  • Effectively participate in and contribute to the ELT and the Multicultural Australia Leadership Team to drive strategy and ensure good governance and a strong organisational culture
  • Lead the operational planning and oversight of the Operations and Performance Function in accordance with Multicultural Australia policies, strategy and plans; delivering on portfolio responsibilities and achieving Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS DO I NEED?

You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and have effective communication and interpersonal skills. As well as having a confident and positive personality, you will possess:

  1. Verified qualifications in a relevant area or equivalent experience.
  2. Substantive experience in a senior leadership/executive role managing resources (people, services and budget) to ensure the achievement of clearly defined strategic objectives.
  3. Strong substantive experience leading across the functional areas of Human Resources; Information Technology; Internal Communications; Research, Data & Impact; Contracts Management & Performance; and Finance (including procurement and facilities) - with domain leadership experience in more than one focus area.
  4. Demonstrated ability to contribute to and implement an organisational vision and strategy.
  5. Strong decision making and strategic thinking skills demonstrated through an ability to resolve critical issues in a complex and ambiguous environment.
  6. Proven ability to lead, motivate, develop, empower and coach employees to excellence in work performance, customer service, and the achievement of an organisation’s vision; and hold the team to account for effectively delivering organisational objectives.

Successful candidate will be required to have a valid driver’s licence, police check and apply for a Working with Children Blue Card. It is a condition of employment with Multicultural Australia to fulfil all our current and future COVID-19 vaccination requirements.
