Future Culture - Artist-in-Residence with CuriousWorks
What is Futre Culture?
How do you build a more relevant, equitable, sustainable and future-focused arts culture? You invest time and money in the people; and you create opportunities for sharing, learning and growing relationships. Future Culture is a new pilot program from CuriousWorks that aims to do all of that.
We’re inviting EOIs for the following opportunities to work with CuriousWorks that will run as salaried, casual, fixed-term, one-day-a-week positions from September 2024 through to June 2025:
-
two early-career artist residencies
-
two graduate/early career arts worker internships
This is the EOI form for the artist-in-residence opportunity. You can apply to the Arts Worker Internship opportunity here.
Artist in Residence Opportunity
The Future Culture pilot program in 2024-2025 will select two early-career* artists to be CuriousWorks artists-in-residence. CuriousWorks exists at the intersection of contemporary multi-arts practice and community arts and cultural development. We work across art forms and disciplines, with a focus on screen works, digital media, and emerging art forms. We are looking to support values-aligned artists of any medium – visual art, literature, music, theatre, digital, etc.
The Future Culture artist-in-residence opportunity is ideal for early-career Western Sydney-based artists looking for a supportive space to create new work or further develop existing projects. We're looking to work with community-minded, socially conscious creatives who are invested in the future of our local arts and media landscape.
What you will get as an artist-in-residence if you’re selected:
- A salaried, casual, fixed-term position from September 2024-June 2025 - see deets below**
- A flexible, one-day-a-week residency across 43 weeks (you can manage your hours, but we will ask you to join us in the office on Wednesdays sometimes for check-ins and knowledge exchange sessions - see below)
- Six sessions for knowledge exchange and professional development with the CuriousWorks team and the whole Future Culture cohort - we will agree on the topics together
- An opportunity to share/showcase your work/work in development at the end of the program
- Access to our office space and its amenities at Fairfield City HQ on Wednesdays
- In-kind hire of our equipment (subject to availability)
- Lots of opportunities to share your work with the CuriousWorks team for feedback and advice
What we’re asking from you:
We see the Future Culture program as a way of building deep and meaningful relationships with the artists-in-residence and arts worker interns. We want to learn from you and we want your perspectives, your lived experience and expertise to inform how CuriousWorks continues to respond to the needs of artists and the sector. For instance, we’re about to start co-creating an Equity Action Plan as a team, so we’d love your input through the knowledge exchange sessions. We’re also keen to have brief monthly check-ins with you so we can share and learn from each other’s work.
We’re excited about our Future Culture. If you are too, apply now!
Apply Now:
Applications are open until Sunday, 11 August 11:59PM. All applicants will be contacted by the end of August.

*'Early Career artists' generally means that you have less than five years experience as a practicing artist; that being said, we know there are many reasons why a person might still consider themselves 'early career.' We encourage you to apply even if you're unsure.
**Salary deets:
This casual, fixed-term position is paid at one-day-per-week (FTE 0.2) for 43 weeks commencing Monday 2 September 2024 and ending Friday 27 June 2025. Our day rate is $281.25 + $32.34 (11.5% super) = $313.59 total per day for early career artists. Payments will be made fortnightly in alignment with company payroll. The total accumulated payment at the conclusion of the residency is: $13,484.37 (including super) per artist in residence.
Future Culture 2024-2025 is a pilot program supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW.
