What is Future Culture?

How do you build a more relevant, equitable, sustainable and future-focused arts culture? You invest time and money in the people; and you create opportunities for sharing, learning and growing relationships. Future Culture is a new pilot program from CuriousWorks that aims to do all of that.

We’re inviting EOIs for the following opportunities to work with CuriousWorks that will run as salaried, casual, fixed-term, one-day-a-week positions from September 2024 through to June 2025:

  • two early-career artist residencies
  • two graduate/trainee arts worker internships

This is the EOI form for the arts worker internship opportunity. You can apply to the artist-in-residence part of the program here.

Arts Worker Internship Opportunity

The Future Culture Arts Worker Paid Internship opportunity is ideal for a student, recent graduate, or a person interested in starting their career as an arts worker. CuriousWorks exists at the intersection of contemporary multi-arts practice and community arts and cultural development. We work across art forms and disciplines, with a focus on screen works, digital media, and emerging art forms. We're looking to work with Western Sydney-based, community-minded, socially conscious creatives who are invested in the future of our local arts and media landscape.

Two arts workers will be selected to shadow a CuriousWorks staff member on a once-a-week basis every Wednesday, learning about the ongoing state of the arts sector and how a small-medium arts organisation is run. Their working experience will be tailored to their professional development goals and areas of interest.

Four areas of learning to choose from (choose any or choose them all):

  • Arts admin/management - Shadowing Andrea Nealy and Kiriaki Zakinthinos
  • Creative Producing - Shadowing Miranda Aguilar and Samantha Barahona
  • Communications and Marketing - Shadowing Jenny Trinh
  • Production (digital content projects) - Shadowing Diego Murillo

What you will get as an arts worker intern if you’re selected:

  • A salaried, casual, fixed-term position from September 2024-June 2025 - see deets below**
  • An opportunity to shadow a CuriousWorks staff member in their day-to-day work - Wednesdays in the office
  • Access to our office space and its amenities at Fairfield City HQ on Wednesdays
  • Six sessions for knowledge exchange and professional development with the CuriousWorks team and the whole Future Culture cohort - we will agree on the topics together
  • An opportunity to share your learnings and reflections at the end of the program

What we’re asking from you:

We see the Future Culture program as a way of building deep and meaningful relationships with the artists in residence and arts worker interns. We want to learn from you and we want your perspectives, your lived experience and expertise to inform how CuriousWorks continues to respond to the needs of artists and the sector. For instance, we’re about to start co-creating an Equity Action Plan as a team, so we’d love your input through the knowledge exchange sessions. We’re also keen to have brief monthly check-ins with you so we can share and learn from each other’s work.

We’re excited about our Future Culture. If you are too, apply now!
