The Smith Family is a children’s education charity that helps young Australians experiencing disadvantage to create better futures for themselves through harnessing the power of education. As we celebrate our Centenary, it’s an exciting time to be joining our family!

 

The Smith Family is currently seeking Coordinators to run our after-school Learning Clubs at schools in Darwin and Palmerston.  Learning Clubs are designed to support students with their schooling through fun activities that promote literacy, numeracy, teamwork and life skills. 

 

About our role

You will be responsible for:

  • Planning, implementing and facilitating weekly sessions during school terms, in partnership with TSF staff
  • Managing the safety and wellbeing of the students and volunteers in Learning Club
  • Coordinating and supervising volunteer tutors
  • Ensuring supply and maintenance of Learning Club resources
  • Collecting weekly attendance data and semester evaluations
  • Providing TSF staff with regular updates on matters relating to Learning Club including volunteer staffing and student engagement

 

About you

Whilst no formal qualifications are required, we are looking for someone who has:  

  • Experience working with children and volunteers
  • Demonstrated commitment to learning, developing skills and sharing knowledge
  • An interest in creative arts
  • Knowledge of issues affecting students leaving disadvantage
  • Good English communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Ability to obtain a Working with Children Card (Ochre Card) through SAFENT, and National Police Check (through The Smith Family)
