Seniors Rights Service has been assisting older Australians as the leading provider of legal services, aged care advocacy and rights education and information to seniors in NSW since 1986. Seniors Rights Service provides support to older people to know and assert their rights. They offer free legal service as well as aged care advocacy and service system navigator programs. Seniors Rights Service also delivers community education and information of relevance to older people across NSW.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Paralegal will provide legal support to a team of Solicitors. This role is based in Surry Hills and has access to hybrid work arrangements which include a blend of community-based, office-based and remote working arrangements. This position is full-time on a max-term contract arrangement to the end of June 2024, aligning with our current funding period.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carry out legal research and draft legal documentation under general direction
  • Provide administrative support to the Principal Solicitor, Manager Legal Services
  • Assist solicitors with the management of files, records and documents
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders in the organisation and scheduling of community legal education sessions
  • Working collaboratively with and across teams within the organisation
  • Supporting and working with a team of Practical Legal Training students
  • Answering client enquiries and ensuring appropriate action in a timely manner
  • Creating, maintaining and updating client enquiries in CRM (Salesforce, CLASS, Actionstep)
  • Some intrastate travel is required

ABOUT YOU

  1. Have a law degree (Associate or LLB) or experience in a Paralegal role
  2. Commitment to social justice and the rights of older people
  3. Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain information concisely to a diverse range of people
  4. Demonstrated ability to work to tight deadlines and manage competing priorities
  5. Highly organised and proficient with Microsoft Office 365
  6. Proven attention to detail, accuracy and a pragmatic problem solver
  7. Well-developed legal research skills
  8. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, initiative and to escalate any matters when required
  9. High level of integrity and commitment to confidentiality
  10. Willingness to obtain an annual flu vaccination and be fully COVID vaccinated. Hold a valid National Criminal History check and driver’s license
