The Organisation

Born out of a protest movement, the Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT Limited (ALS) is the primary legal service for Aboriginal people in NSW and the ACT. The vision of ALS is to achieve social justice and equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and communities.

About the role

This role offers an opportunity to embed a transformative shift in human resources delivery across the organisation. Reporting to the Director, Finance & Shared Services you will drive organisational performance and capability, within a quality focused and supportive environment.

Specifically, you will:

  • Be a trusted advisor to Executive team and Senior Managers on people matters
  • Lead and support a team of human resource professionals
  • Lead change programs including restructures, capability development programs and Remuneration Framework reviews
  • Oversee continuous improvement and development of HR systems and practices
  • Lead and manage a range of HR related projects from design and development through to implementation
  • Develop and implement annual people plans and activities
  • Oversee the quality and delivery of professional, reliable and contemporary HR generalist expertise
  • Monitor and provide accurate recommendations on complex employee relations matters

Skills Required

Your skills and experience

Together with significant experience leading and managing a human resources function, you bring demonstrated ability to translate the strategic direction of an organisation into a clear people plan and lead and deliver business transformation initiatives and programs.

Additionally, you have:

  • Up-to-date knowledge of, and proven ability to interpret and apply employment and WHS legislation
  • Excellent project management, planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • A hands-on approach with the ability to pivot between strategy and operational tasks
  • High proficiency in Microsoft suite with intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the cultural and social needs of Aboriginal people combined with continuing respect and support for Aboriginal cultural practices when considering service delivery and other support for clients, their families, communities and employees

Desirable

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Previous experience working in a not for profit organisation
