SisterWorks Crochet Teacher (Volunteer)

The SisterWorks model, 'Work Empowers Women', is centred around empowerment, fostering a sense of independence and providing opportunities for building a community, learning new skills, and earning an income. This is achieved via our Empowerment Hubs in Richmond, Bendigo and Dandenong, as well as through our online learning platform.

SisterWorks has been able to expand the reach of its model via an exciting partnership with UN Women and . This partnership has provided a platform for growth, transformation and enhanced external advocacy opportunities and influence, and enabled the organisation to expand its reach outside of Melbourne into regional Victoria. During this period of growth, SisterWorks has remained committed to seeking engagement and guidance from the women we support and are constantly looking for new ways to positively impact the lives of more Sisters.

Role Responsibilities:·

  • Develop crochet training programme with Empowerment Hub and Empowerment Hubs Head. ·
  • Conduct a live crochet activity online (beginners’ class and advanced class) Welcoming Sisters, encouraging them to know each other and ensuring they have a positive experience during the training·
  • Use available SisterWorks tools, such as videos and games, to provide first training instructions ·
  • Check the crochet level of each participant and plan their training accordingly·Teach the product making process and supervise women performance, checking the quality of their product after every step·
  • Work in a team with other teachers, organizing activities and sharing responsibilities·
  • Review the participants' development and progress in skills.

Desired experience and qualifications:·

  • With advanced crochet skills·
  • Able to use Google Hangouts, WhatsApp and other video conference tools (with a good internet connection at home)·
  • Ability to lead activities and teach others·
  • Prior experience working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.Good listening and observation skills.
  • Capacity to work as part of a team.
