4 places where you can cut plastic waste this Plastic Free July

We’re almost at the end of Plastic Free July, a global movement that began in 2011 to help individuals and organisations find practical ways to reduce plastic use. Fast forward nearly 15 years, and the campaign has grown massively, with over 174 million participants worldwide in 2024 alone.

To mark the moment, we're shining a light on some small but impactful ideas you might not have considered before.

There are plenty of innovative, lesser-known solutions than bringing your keep cup or shopping at a farmers markets being put into action:

  • At home: Choose cleaning products that are plastic-free like the dish brushes sold by our friends, All of the Good Things
  • In the community: Organise a local clean-up day with friends or neighbors at a park or public space
  • At events: Reducing plastic waste doesn’t have to be expensive and often it just takes clear communication. Before the event encourage attendees to bring their own reusable items like water bottles, bags and coffee cups
  • At work: Conduct a bin audit with your colleagues to identify where waste is coming from and ensure it’s being sorted correctly
