Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation | Strategy 2030 Launch

LMCF's 2030 Strategy

The Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation has launched a bold new strategic plan, Strategy 2030, aimed at addressing systemic inequality and promoting social, climate, and economic justice across Greater Melbourne.

Announced by CEO Peter Walton on 13 May 2025, the five-year strategy centres equity and social justice as core principles guiding the Foundation’s future funding and partnerships.

Despite Melbourne’s reputation as one of the world’s most liveable cities, Walton highlighted the growing disparity within its communities. “It’s not always a fair city—and we want it to be one,” he said.

Strategy 2030 identifies three overlapping focus areas:

  • Housing justice

  • Climate justice

  • Economic justice

The Foundation acknowledges the interconnected nature of social challenges, with Walton noting that “you can’t talk about one without talking about the others.”

The plan introduces new organisational values—including ambition, courage, curiosity, and especially humility—to better engage with communities and place affected voices at the centre of solutions.

The strategy also supports the idea of a wellbeing economy, where success is measured not just in economic growth but in the wellbeing of people and the planet.

Looking ahead, Walton said the Foundation will balance urgent community needs with long-term systemic change, aiming to become “a positive force for good around social justice, equity and more effective philanthropy.”
